“Mom, I will do it myself. Don’t help me.”, she repeated assertively.
“No, but…”.
Before I could debate any further, she exclaimed in an unparalleled state of excitement.
” I did it, Mom! I did it all by myself.”

Streams of sweat dribbled down her forehead. She cursed the searing and sultry weather for the umpteenth time as her palms worked efficiently and pummelled the flour with accurate precision to knead the perfect dough. Satisfied with the outcome, she decided to catch some shut-eye and trudged towards the living room.
With a swarm of ideas in my head,
I perch on the sofa and begin my tread.
I think, I write, I think and I erase,
Only to involuntarily find myself staring into blank space.
It was a special day for us. A milestone of sorts! We celebrated the occasion with pomp and ebullience. Love and bliss filled the air with an intoxicating charm that elevated our spirits to a new high. First month birthdays are memorable indeed.
As we gaped at her angelic toothless grin in awe, she let out a loud wail signalling that it was time for a diaper change. It suddenly struck me then. It was Valentine’s Day too! I smiled as I watched him clean her up while I rested. That day I realized love comes in many forms.

Time and again, I have mentioned in my blogs about how by giving back to the society, we actually end up giving much more to ourselves. It may be called social service but I see it as something we ought to do, because who else will? We don’t realize that what we spread around stays in our milieu and impacts us too. The issues plaguing our society are often viewed by us from a third-party perspective, as if we live in a bubble untouched and unfazed. When I had resigned from my corporate job to pursue my creative interests, there was a polarizing reaction from family, friends and acquaintances. While some were extremely supportive and confident about me, a few others thought it was a foolish decision and asked me to think through it again objectively and practically. Or a perception that has no delineated end or start?
Rarely does it happen that a book leaves me flabbergasted, shattered and reassured, all at the same time.
With the “Me Too” movement gaining momentum and changing the conversations around the subject of rape and consent, the timing of this book could not be better. This is an important read for all of us because the truth is that whenever a rape happens, we are all the victims – some of us realize it, some don’t. The devil-may-care youngsters were sprinting across the open field, engrossed in blowing and bursting balloons. All of a sudden, Danny stopped and stared at Diya straight in the eyes.
“Diya, I think it’s time to tell you the truth. You are not my biological sister. We had found you on the lane next to our house. “
There was deafening silence for a few minutes followed by an uproarious laughter.
“You are so mean! You got me for a moment.” , yelled Diya while running behind Danny to punch him.
Some stories remain the same. Only the siblings change.

Seasoned and supremely gifted actors. A powerful and novel concept. A strong technical team. But, something goes wrong along the way, the perfect ingredients don’t make that perfect dish. That’s Helicopter Eela for you! I was left disappointed at the end of it because this could have and should have been a pioneering endeavour in Hindi Cinema. But the half-baked script and the inconsistent screenplay, unfortunately, make this a turbulent ride with a bumpy landing.
